Top 5 Golf Gadget Must Haves

Updated: Aug 19, 2021

This is always one of my favorite List Reviews because it combines two things I’m totally obsessed with, Golf and Gadgets! I love researching this one, I get to test and play with hundreds of cool things, but the hard part is narrowing my list down to the top 5.

Now this list has a theme, which I’m sure you will figure out in within the first two products, so I wanted to make sure I selected gadgets that were not only awesome, but fit within our “Have Fun While You Golf” theme... and I think all of these are a hole-in-one. Enjoy the list, and make you send us photos, and stories of your experiences with any of these products… You never know, we may use your story in one of our social media posts.

5. 6ixPack Golf Insulated Cooler Bag

I figured we would kick this list off in style with an ice-cold brew! Coming in at #5 on our list this year is the 6ixPack Golf Insulated Cooler Bag.

Let’s face it! We’ve all tried to sneak our own delicious beverages on the course. I’ve wrestled with coolers in the parking lot, to then load the cart with extra clothes to hide the cooler as we pull up to the starter… Well, hide in style now my friend.

This awesome little cooler is designed to slide into the pocket of most golf bags, and with it’s 5mm thick insulated foam walls, combined with a gel freezer pack, this little trick of nature will keep those frosty suds…well, frosty!

As the name would suggest, it is built to fit six 330ml-350ml cans, but it will also fit 4 of the big boys. Ohhh, you’re one of those? Well, this has you covered also. If you want to sip some wine with your pinky up on the third tee, then sip away my good man! This pack will hold, and keep chilled a 750ml bottle of wine.

What we liked:

  • Cost effective- save money by bringing your own

  • Conveniently fits in most golf bags

  • Keeps your drinks cold throughout the round

  • Has pockets for things like a bottle opener

  • Drinking on the course

What we thought was Ehh!:

  • It only holds six? Well, I guess all my buddies are getting gifts this year!

4. Sound Caddy Golf Club Bluetooth Speaker and Power Bank

“So what? So, let’s dance!” One the most classic scenes in Caddyshack brings us to our #4 selection on our top golf gadgets, the Sound Caddy Golf Club Bluetooth Speaker and Power Bank.

So, we have now successfully snuck our beers on the course, so why not take it all the way and equip our bag with the most powerful driver on the market…Or is it? This clever little invention may look like a driver, but it’s actually a Bluetooth speaker. Need some tunes while you’re waiting for the 4-some in front of you? No worries, with its removable shaft, grippy rubber button, and tee-hole spikes this little sound caddy can having you playing Eye of The Tiger in no time.

Not only can in hide in your bag as a club, while playing the latest tunes, but you can detach the head and stick the spike into your golf cart’s tee holder for access to the dual output USB power source. There’s an additional spike under the grip that allows you to stick the speaker into the ground on the range, or while BBQing outdoors. The whole time charging your phone from the built-in power bank and two USB ports.

What we liked:

  • 2 USB ports

  • 4000mh battery

  • Detachable and versatile

  • Great sound

  • Weatherproof

What we thought was Ehh!:

  • You can’t actually use it as a driver! lol!

3. SelfieGOLF Record Golf Swing

So, by now you are drunk and dancing on the course, so this leads us to our #3 overall pick for a “must have” gadget this year, the SelfieGolf Record Golf Swing.

I mean, your buddy is horrible at taking videos, so you need a steady hand that will capture all the hijinks now that your 4-some is loaded and singing along to 90’s rap… Of course, we are just kidding. This little selfie gadget is a major award winner, in fact, it just won the honor of PGA Best Product.

This little phone holder works with any golf bag and alignment stick. This easy clip system adjusts in seconds and allows you to take video of your swing to analyze. Take it both on the range, and then on the course to see if your swing changes. It’s sturdy and stable and the videos come out as they should. No more trying to lean your phone up against your bag, or having your buddy hold the phone and take video. Clip this, place your phone and you are ready to see what your swing actually looks like.

2. Leupold Golf 2018 Mens GX-2i3 DNA Slope & Club Selector Laser Golf RangeFinder

One of the most frustrating things for me is selecting the wrong club because I misread the distance to the pin, or I listened to my buddy Tom’s advice who didn’t know that Alaska is part of the US. Anyway, this leads us to #2 on our list of Top Gadgets for this year, The Leupold Golf 2018 GX DNA Slope & Club Selector Laser Golf RangeFinder. On my list of longest product names, they get #1.

So, why is this RangeFinder with the exceeding long name so good? Well, without getting too technical, it’s basically like having a caddy with exact measurements in your pocket. Leupold’s high performance DNA (Digitally eNhanced Accuracy) engine with advanced infrared laser technology provides faster measurements with increased accuracy.

This little stinker can basically take a look at the distance, the terrain, the weather conditions, and combine that with your personal hitting strength to select the club that you should use? What? Are you serious? Yup, you heard me correctly. It’s basically a computer in the palm of your hand, so no more listening to crazy Tom.

What we liked:

  • PinHunter 3 Laser Technology picks up the flag even faster and easier

  • Prism Lock Technology uses highly reflective prisms for the most accurate readings

  • DNA (Digitally eNhanced Accuracy) engine and advanced laser measures faster with greater accuracy

  • TGR and Club Selector provides accurate distances and club recommendations based on hitting strength, slope and environment that can be disabled for tournament play

  • Fog mode helps cut down on false readings

  • I don’t have to get distance recommendations from Tom anymore

What we thought was Ehh!:

  • It’s a bit pricey

  • Can’t order me a beer, but if you bought #5 on this list then there is no need

1. Garmin Approach S40, Stylish GPS Golf Smartwatch

I love it when form and function come together, and that’s what you get with the #1 “must have” gadget on this year’s list, the Garmin Approach s40 GPS Smartwatch.

In the past I’ve stayed away from gadgets like this. I felt it was a bit of a waste of money to just buy a watch that’s sole function was golf. Over the years they progressed, but still not to the point I felt the need to buy one, until now. This is more than just a wrist GPS watch for golf, this is more of a Smartwatch. This will replace my Fitbit, and I get the bonus of having a GPS golf tracker.

So, why now? What changed my mind about this watch? Basically, it’s full of useful features that when put together make this a “must have”.

Let’s start with the screen size. This watch is equipped with a sunlight-readable 1.2” color touchscreen with a metal bezel and quick release bands to easily change out to any style or color. It also has AutoShot detection, which measures and auto-records detected shot distances, and a Green View feature that allows manual pin positioning; quickly reference distances to the front, middle and back of the green as well as hazards and doglegs.

This is definitely the best an all-in-one smartwatch/Golf GPS tracker currently on the market, and one you should be equipped with this golf season.

What we liked:

  • Battery Life: up to 15 hours in GPS mode and 10 days in smartwatch mode

  • 41,000 preloaded courses from around the world

  • Tracks everyday activities as steps, sleep, and includes built-in multisport profiles

  • AutoShot Detection

  • Sunlight readable color screen

  • Bands can be changed based on my sweet golf outfit

What we thought was Ehh!

  • Does not work with putts, or short shots around the green unless paired with optional Approach CT10 club tracking sensors
